Biography

Hi, my name is Ella, and I’m from Elgin, IL. I’m currently a second-year undergraduate student in Biomedical Engineering and am also on the Pre-Medicine track. My interests lie in understanding pulmonary structure and function on a deeper level, as well as how AI segmentations and models can be used to enhance methods of treating pulmonary diseases. My work is in developing and improving an AI model to recognize biomarkers found in pulmonary computed tomography (CT) images to predict patient mortality, with an end goal of achieving better patient outcomes in clinical settings. Outside of the lab, I’m involved in University of Iowa’s chapter of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Dance Marathon.
