Biography
Hi, I’m Delaney Sondgeroth and I am an undergraduate student entering my senior year at the University of Iowa studying Biomedical Engineering and working toward a minor in Computer Science. As an ICRU research fellow, my project involves the implementation of computational, artificial intelligence, and machine learning techniques to automate the analysis of structural changes of the kidney caused by kidney disease, visualized in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. My work focuses on developing and evaluating neural network models to detect structural changes in kidney tissue, with the goal of identifying clinically relevant biomarkers. This project combines my interests in medical imaging, programming, and the integration of technology in healthcare while also allowing me to apply the problem-solving and engineering concepts I’ve learned throughout my undergraduate experiences so far. I’m excited for this opportunity to expand my knowledge, take on new challenges, and grow both technically and professionally through hands-on research.
